Remembering Sinead Cholij

In Memoriam: 16 July 1988 – 24 July 2026

It is with profound sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and colleague, Sinead Cholij, passed away peacefully on 24 July 2026, surrounded by her fiancé and family, just weeks after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.

Sinead was much more than a colleague. She was a friend, a trusted confidante to many, and an integral part of Agathos for more than a decade.

She joined the Agathos team in 2015 and became Executive Assistant to our Founding Partner, William de Laszlo, in 2019. Over the years she helped guide the firm through every stage of its journey—from the early days of Fund I to the successful launch of Fund III.

Behind every meeting and event was Sinead’s quiet professionalism and extraordinary attention to detail. She was exceptionally intelligent and had a wonderful ability to make even the most complex days feel effortless, always putting others first and never seeking recognition for herself. Her optimism and quiet strength, even in the most difficult of times, inspired everyone around her.

Many of the investors, management teams and advisers with whom we work will have known Sinead personally. Others may only have known her through an email or a carefully organised meeting. Whether they realised it or not, if they worked with Agathos over the past decade, there is a very good chance Sinead played a part in making that experience a positive one.

Since her passing, many of those who knew Sinead have shared their memories of her. One investor described her as “so kind, warm and amazingly quick and funny.” Another said she was “always warm, professional and helpful,” while another reflected that she “truly embodied the spirit of the Agathos family.” All of these are fitting ways to describe the lasting impression she made on so many people.

Sinead worked incredibly hard, never stopped learning, and always found a way to bring warmth, humour and perspective to those around her. She filled her life with kindness, compassion, humility, quiet excellence and a commitment to helping others. She genuinely cared about people, taking the time to ask how someone was doing, quietly looking after colleagues when they were having a difficult day, and somehow making everyone feel welcome. Even during her illness, she never completely lost her remarkable sense of humour. Those of us who had the privilege of knowing her will carry her example with us for the rest of our lives.

Outside Agathos, Sinead dedicated her time to helping others live healthier lives. She qualified as a CNHC Registered Nutritional Therapist, offering both online and in-person consultations, driven by a genuine passion for improving people’s wellbeing.

She also gave countless hours of her own time to the offshore ocean rowing community as Club Secretary of the Offshore Ocean Rowing Association, becoming one of the driving forces behind the scenes. Sinead played an instrumental role in supporting the GB Row Challenge, helping organise an initiative that brings together the rowing community to collect valuable environmental data to help protect the UK’s coastal waters. Like so much of what she did, she worked tirelessly and quietly in the background, enabling others to succeed while never seeking recognition herself.

Our thoughts, love and deepest condolences are with Josh, Sinead’s fiancé, her parents Victor and Bried, her sister Victoria (Vicky), her twin brother Alex, and all of her family and friends.

Sinead, thank you for your friendship, your loyalty, your determination, your compassion and your laughter. Thank you for helping build Agathos into what it is today. You will always be part of our story and you will always be remembered.
